BJ MCMorris, RN, Director of OB Services, named 2009 Nurse of the Year for Wallace Thomson Hospital During the Annual Service Awards Banquet on May 12th, Wallace Thomson Hospital named BJ McMorris, RN, as the 2009 Nurse of the Year. For the first time, employees of Wallace Thomson Hospital nominated RN’s to be selected as Nurse of the Year. The ballot asked a series of questions to determine how the nominees excelled in their field, their leadership ability, their compassion, and their professionalism. The nominators choose staff that are professional, respectful and stand out as exemplary employees of Wallace Thomson Hospital. “Nursing is a career in which you need to show compassion and empathy for others. I had a friend who became ill and needed many surgeries. I carried this friend to appointments and it always seemed that the nurses were so knowledgeable and kind to her. Since I knew nothing about medicine I felt helpless; I needed to be of more support for my friend. Thus leading to my decision to become a nurse. During my years of nursing there have been many good days and some bad days, but mostly they have been rewarding, thankful days. I love my job, I look forward to coming into work each day; I thank God for blessing me. I thank my family, my friends and my OB staff for all their support. I really care about the people I work with. I became a fulltime nurse at Wallace Thomson January 11, 1999 and have no regrets.” BJ McMorris, Wallace Thomson Hospital’s 2009 Nurse of the Year. “BJ McMorris, Director of the Obstetrics Department, has been instrumental in re-opening the OB unit, providing a valued service to the Union community.
